Therapy for Depression and Other Mood Disorders

Are you feeling hopeless, isolated and not your usual self? Or are your moods up, down, and all over the place?

Do these thoughts often enter your mind?

    • I am worthless and can’t do anything about it.
    • I feel guilty for just wanting to eat, sleep and be alone.
    • I hate who I am these days.
    • I can’t stop crying, which makes me want to stay away from others.
    • I feel gut-wrenching pain, but no one understands.
    • My life and the world around me are dark. I hate it, but I can’t change it.

If you have had any variation of these thoughts, chances are you may be suffering from depression.

“You don’t think in depression that you’ve put on a grey veil and are seeing the world through the haze of a bad mood. You think that the veil has been taken away, the veil of happiness, and that now you’re seeing truly.”
    Andrew Solomon

If you sometimes are depressed but you also sometimes are up, up, and away, you may be suffering from bipolar disorder, where depressed mood alternates with extremely elevated moods. If you have bipolar disorder, there might be periods when you:

    • Feel abnormally upbeat or “wired”
    • Feel extremely agitated
    • Feel unusually good (euphoric)
    • Be able to get lots done with little or no sleep
    • Feel very impulsive and like taking a lot of risks
    • Be very talkative, energetic, or distractible
    • Have racing thoughts

I want you to know that you are not alone and there are people who can help. Many of my clients find relief in realizing that their struggle does not own them and that there are many options available to once again have hope.

I use mindfulness-based cognitive behavioral therapy (MBCBT), among other strategies, to help my clients manage moods. If you are hoping to finally lighten this load and feel like yourself again, contact me today for a free consultation.
